Towed Vehicle Release Authorization

Your vehicle is in the Florida Keys. You're not. If your vehicle has been towed or is being held at a storage facility in the Florida Keys, but you are out of town, out of state, traveling or otherwise unable to be there in person, you may be able to authorize a trusted person to handle the release for you.

Almost all tow companies require written authorization that has A MANDATORY NOTARIZATION REQUIREMENT and while you are trying to arrange everything while you're away, towing and storage charges may continue to accumulate. Good news is that you don't have to be in the Keys to get that paperwork handled.

Keys After Hours Notary provides Vehicle Release Authorization notarization for owners who cannot be physically present at the tow yard. We can offer a calm and cool solution to an often high stress situation.

When Calling the tow yard to find out if they have your vehicle, also ask what the fees are currently, what they charge per additional day, what they need from you and whomever picks up the vehicle (i.e. proof of identity, proof of ownership, insurance card, etc.), what kind of payment they accept, and what is required on the vehicle release letter. Below is a generic form, however some companies may require that their own form be filled.

The person signing this document must personally appear before a duly commissioned notary public and complete the required oath or affirmation and notarial act.

The notarization may be completed:

• In person: before a commissioned notary public; or

• Online: through a lawful remote online notarization (RON) session conducted by a notary public who is authorized and registered to perform online notarizations in accordance with applicable Florida law and using a compliant online notarization service/platform.

The signer must personally appear before the notary at the time of the notarization. Electronic or digital signing of this document does not, by itself, satisfy the notarization requirement.

If the person required to sign this document is incarcerated or otherwise confined in a correctional facility, the signer must arrange for a notary public authorized to provide notarial services at that facility, such as a correctional/jail notary, to complete the required notarization. The notarization requirement may not be waived or satisfied solely by an electronic signature.

Pursuant to Fla. Stat. §117.021(1), documents requiring notarization may be notarized electronically. Online notarizations are governed by Part II of Chapter 117, Florida Statutes, including the requirements applicable to online notaries and the principal's appearance before the online notary.

Notarized Authorization is NOT the same as Vehicle Release. Notary verifies document execution and performs applicable notarial act.

A Notary DOES NOT:

  • Order towing company to release vehicle

  • Remove law enforcement hold

  • satisfy a towning lien

  • pay towing or storage charges

  • transfer title

  • determine who legally owns the vehicle

  • override the towing company's lawful release requirements
